MENTAL HEALTH FACULTY

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT COURSE

MENTAL HEALTH FACULTY:

The World Health Organization (WHO) had and has continued to publish alarming statistics on the rising incidents of Mental Health Disorder.

Mental disorders are the leading cause of disability among young people aged 5 to 24 years. (GBD 2017).

And even more importantly, most mental disorders in adults start to manifest during childhood and adolescence.

Sadly, according to them, suicide is now the third leading cause of death in 15-19 year-olds, from suicide, to substance abuse, violence and self-injury, many young people are daily becoming victims of poor mental health.

Therefore, the need for mental health training has become extremely crucial for all caregivers- Parents, School Leaders, Teachers to help stem the tide.

More so, as it has been identified that schools are better positioned to develop public health strategies that can help prevent and detect mental disorders early as well as provide an ideal environment that can address problems arising from it.

Therefore, the Mental Health Training Series will cover different aspects of mental health education to address the competency gap required to provide the essential support in our school communities.
