About OLUWAROTIMI SHODIMU O.A
Olu Shodimu as he is fondly called, is a consummate service-oriented personality with a great passion for meeting the challenges of the needy in the society. He has an uncommon interest in attending to the protection of the disadvantage and down trodden and those with psychological and physiological challenges. This informed his long year of service to society as a public servant of more than about four decades before he retired from the Services of the University of Lagos, where he was both as a Student and Staff for forty four years.
‘Olu-Seventy’ as he is fondly called was the welfare Secretary of the University of Lagos Student Union (ULSU) in the year 79/80 session and was adjudged as the student made the greatest contribution to University Life by winning the Chief E.N.O medal of service as approved by the University Senate and Council of the University. This marked the beginning of his career in the University where he was retained for National Youth Service in 1981 on his graduation with a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology, and later Masters degree in Sociology in 1983.
He rose through the rank as an administrative -Staff and was later appointed as Registrar and Secretary to Council, University of Lagos, 2007 – 2013. He proceeded to National Universities Commission (NUC) on high recommendation of his sterling qualities between 2014 and 2017. He had a short stint as the Executive Assistant to the Founder of Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti, Aare Afe Babalola, SAN, CON between 2016 and 2018 before returning to the University of Lagos where he served till October 2022 and retired on the attainment of the mandatory retirement age.
Shodimu, has this high penchant for addressing challenges among children and Youth by addressing aspects of the internalization of values, school age challenges and attributes (syndromes physical and spiritual limitations with health/mental tendencies), competition, collaboration and advancement in which the Youth are exposed to equal opportunities without any disadvantage. All these informed his appointment as a Special Resource Person to the Federal Government in 1998 as a Member of the Inter-Ministerial National Youth Advisory Committee till 2004. He had input in the National Youth Advisory Committee and was involved in the report on Youth with special Needs at various plenary sessions.
He has travelled widely within and outside the Country and had several publications on Youth Matters especially Student Unionism, youth clubs and securities, youth education and empowerment. He has with varied education experiences to many schools at the primary, post primary, Institutions like Ibadan Grammar School, Federal College Ilorin, International School, University of Ibadan with peculiarities of cultures and values equipped him with knowledge, wisdom to deal with children and youth of various backgrounds
He hails from Abeokuta, Ogun State and he is a Christian.
He is married to Adunni, a versatile hospitality service Professional, who is presently engaged in Facilities and welfare services of students. The marriage is blessed with four children, two boys and two girls who are all graduates in the professional field of Engineering/Surveying, Law and Medicine. He is also a legal Practitioner with interest in Human Rights and Constitutional Law.
He took advantage of his environment to study Law to equip himself in the onerous task of finding solutions to societal challenges.
He is the Patron of many Youth clubs and societies.
He has several Publications to his credit and has delivered many lectures on Child psychology/values, Human Rights and University Administration.
